About Plagiarism

JPKAT rejects all forms of plagiarism. We use Plagiarism Checker(X) to check for plagiarism. Articles that are indicated plagiarized will be immediately returned and the author(s) will be denied work for 3 (three) years.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, statements, or writings without properly acknowledging the source. The act of plagiarism is a form of moral offense that falls into the category of theft, only what is stolen is not physical property, but intellectual property. Not making appropriate references to academic persons is a serious, even criminal, act and can be criminalized (see Article 113 of Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright).

What can be categorized as plagiarism?

According to Permendiknas RI No. 17/2010 on Prevention and Countermeasures of Plagiarism in Higher Education, Chapter II, Article 2, article (1), acts of plagiarism include but are not limited to:

a. referring and/or quoting terms, words and/or sentences without mentioning the source in the citation notes and/or without adequately acknowledging the source;

b. referring to and/or randomly quoting terms, words and/or sentences of data and/or information from a source without mentioning the source in the quotation notes and/or without adequately stating the source;

c. using the source of ideas, opinions, views, or theories without adequately stating the source;

d. formulating in one's own words and/or sentences from the source words and/or sentences, ideas, opinions, views, or theories without adequately stating the source;

e. submitting a scientific work produced and/or published by another party as his/her scientific work without adequately stating the source.

What sources must be mentioned?

Any work, ideas, and notions of others.
Any paraphrase of other people's works, ideas and ideas (reference must be made to the original source).
Any quotation (partial or complete) must be put in quotation marks and made a reference to the original source.

How to avoid plagiarism?

Use a citation app such as mendeley, zotero, or endnote.
Record every source used immediately. Don't delay.
Even in paraphrasing, include the reference from which the idea was taken. Include analysis and responses, either affirmation or refutation, to the idea.
Use a plagiarism checker, such as plagiarism checker (X), turnitin, grammarly, or iThenticate before submitting the article.

2. About nihil obstat

Every research article that has major ethical consequences must include a nihil obstat from the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
